As tu des bottes ? | |

______________ Hey Rick, It was my second ride of the season westerday with my alpin snowboard. I need some tips to tunnup my board. If you got time, I will very apreciat it. I reed a bit on bomber online. At this time a ride 45 Front and 57 Back. I'm pretty shure its a weird setup. But at now, this angle help me to put my back knee in the same line of my front knee. Like a tuck in downhill. But I got a probleme, when I wont to carve near the ground on my heel side, my front heel drag, so I fall. I think a 60 degrees in front will solve my problemes? The second thing is that I dint got some elevetor so, maybe my boots are to low? Last thing, when I finish a carve and wont to go back up on the hill to loose some speed have got some difficulties. I know is not board problem so do you gots some tips for my body position? thanks! Louis _________________________ Louis Speedcarver! I am happy to help you. A question or two first. What board do you ride? How many cm long? How many cm wide at the waist (narrow point, edge to edge, between your feet)? For example, my slalom board is 160cm long and 20cm wide at the narrowest place. For a usual set up, the toes and heels of your boots should be just inside the edges of the board, so no hanging over - you will get heel drag like you describe. I want to make sure we are talking about the same angles for bindings. Measure your angles of the bindings so that "0" means your foot is across the board edge to edge, and "90" would mean your foot points straight forward. I ride my slalom board at 55 degrees front and 50 back, and my GS board at 51 front and 48 back. My GS board is 21 cm wide at the waist, so angles are slightly more across the board - more "surf" stance. You should not have more than 5 degrees difference between your two bindings. You are right, try 60 front and 57 back. If your board is wide enough, try 55 front 52 back - as long as you have no heel drag. The more across the board your stance (less angle) the more stable you will be on rough terrain. The more forward your stance (more angle), the more quick to turn but less stable. You should not need any elevator. Elevator can give you more edge pressure to hold on ice, but is less stable. At the end of a carve, to lose speed and turn up hill, put more weight on your back foot. I will try to come ride with you this winter, but I need to get my passport in order first - maybe later in January? Good luck Louis!! - a couple other things I forget to say. What is your stance width? Measure it from center of front binding mounting disk to center of back binding mounting disk - should be about 45-52 cm. Also measure half that distance and make a mark on the board - this is the center of your stance width. That mark should be 1-2 cm in back of the mid point of the edge contact length (I am sure you know what I mean in English on this one - Haha!). Edge contact length is measured by putting the board on a flat hard floor and pressing it flat. Measure only the edge that touches the floor - not past where it rises up on the nose and tail. Half of that length is the center of your edge contact length, and the center of your stance width should be 1-2 cm back. If your stance is centered too far forward - the same as or in front of the center of the edge contact length, you would have trouble turning up the hill at the end of your carves. I wish I knew how to say all that en Francais, but Je ne parlais pas Francais! -Rick __________________________ Wooooouuuu I think it was the time for me to play with my setup. Thanks for helping me. Board = Hot / logical / asymmetrical / 155 cm How many cm wide at the waist = 20.6 cm Current stance = 45 cm Shorter stance = 38.1 longer stance = 50.2
For the the edge contact length, how I press the board. with 1 feet in the center or 1 feet one each place for the binding? __________________________
I'd try a longer stance, maybe 48cm - see what you think. As long as the entire board base is flat against the floor when you measure the edge contact length, it doesn't matter how you do it. As a general rule, binding inserts are on the board at a place where the center of each setting is set back from the edge contact center - anywhere from 1-3 cm. Further back gives you easier turn exit, further forward gives easier turn entry. Bring a pocket board tool screwdriver to the hill with you and experiment! Rip it Louis! I will let you know when i have my border crossing "papier".
