Let me be the first to welcome you back to Antrim for the 2009 Antrim Can/Am Slalom Championships! http://www.slalomskateboard.com

My race committee met last Monday for the first time, and we're getting our plans together.

EARLY CHANGES YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT:

o We're opening registration on July 1 and closing it when we reach 60 paid skaters. At that point we will put you on a wait list. You may cancel up to September 1, after which you lose your money. Sorry to have to do that, but we had too many bail last year and lost money on housing. And I got my weenie whacked.

o Registration will be handled on Active.com, a sports event registration site, not NCDSA. Will post the link as soon as it's active.

o Registration will ask you for your housing preferences and whether you want to find your own.

o Cost is $75.00, which as of this writing will include:
Meals ticket for:
Friday pizza party (family @$5.00 a head)
Saturday breakfast at the First Presbyterian Church
Saturday lunch on the hill by the Antrim Baptist Church
Saturday BBQ dinner at Tenney Farm
Sunday continental breakfast on the top of the hill

Free Camping:
At Seven Maples, same as last year. Five miles from Antrim, however, we don't have the bridge detour we had last time.
We have some tents available, like last year.

Free Dorm on cots: (UNCONFIRMED, BUT LIKELY)
At the Maharishi Academy. Very spartan, but clean, warm & dry. About 4 miles from downtown.

Party: We'll buy the basics. If you want Guiness, you're buying this year!


o We're adding a porta-potty at the top of the hill, and down by the grandstands, back in the corner. Also adding a changing booth (think Superman) at the top of the hill to avoid exposing classrooms full of kids. Remember -- no use of the school bathrooms this year!

o FYI, Southwest is now flying into Boston as well as Manchester. Pricing is typically cheaper into Manchester.

More details coming in the next few days as we hash through some things.

6 a.m. to 9:15 AM Road Open to allow school traffic to pass
9:15 Road Closed
9:15 - 10:30 AM Course set up
10:30 AM Practice begins
12 PM Qualification begin for ABC bracketing
4 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. 50 Cone Single Lane Challenge-- Summer Street Hill
6:30 p.m. Pizza, soda, salad, breadsticks NEW in 2009 This dinner is open to the public. We are selling shirts and will have pens for you to sign the kids' shirts and boards. All skater family members, $5.00.
6:30 p.m. Summer Street Reopens overnight
7:30 p.m Dr. Dan's GlowCone demo -- 25 cone flat course, just for fun!


Saturday, September 19

9 a.m. - Dual Hybrid Slalom Racing Begins - Rotating A B C bracket
11:15 a.m.- Break for parade -- Pirate Run! ARRRR. Everybody bombs the hill in pirate garb you bring. Skaters join parade at junction of
Rt . 31 and North Main Street.
Noon - Lunch on the hill during Soap Box Derby
12:30 - 5:30 p.m. Dual Hybrid Racing Resumes
5:30 - 7:00 Proceed to Tenney Farm for dinner & live music- Hot dogs, Hamburgers,
corn, chips, drink. (racer meals covered--$3.00 extra for upgrade to BBQ chicken)

A couple of reminders that I don't want to forget when things get crazy right before the race:

o HELMETS/PADS REQUIRED -- Antrim is a helmet-required, pads-required race. Our hill is fast and crashes do happen from time to time, and Dave K. & I feel strongly about setting a good example for the local kids.

o SKATE PARK Also, Dave asked a couple of weeks ago if anyone wanted to make a "crossover" appearance at our skate park, please set a good example with helmets there, too, please.

o BATHROOMS You asked for porta potties on the hill. There will be one located at the top of the hill, along the hedge near the flag pole. A second will be located at the bottom of the hill to the left of the dam, back in the corner. Flush toilets will be at Town Hall and the Presbyterian Church.

o CHANGING CLOTHES Next to the bathroom at the top of the hill, will be a Superman-like changing booth. This eliminates the need for disrobing in front of classes of 5th graders on Friday

o ROUTES TO HOUSING Bridge construction caused detours to both of our housing locations last year. The bridge to Hancock has been fixed, thank goodness, taking three miles off the trip. I believe the other has been fixed, too, but will verify later today.

You have a good memory. Yes, unfortunately taxes add 8% to the bill which is, $USD 900 x 8% = $USD 72, for a grand total of $USD 972. As I mentioned, a check or cash is good; no credit cards please.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you. The local papers say that "newly crowned Men's world champion George Pappas and repeating woman's world champion Lyn Kramer will lead the events." There is lots of excitement in Antrim building around the slalom championships and the new 50-cone tight slalom on Friday.

dominic and Louis in one room with two singles
Etienne + son in a double bed
Miguel and Pierre each in their own room since I do not have another room with two singles.
However, even though that totals 5 rooms, I will only charge for 4 rooms. Our price as listed on the internet is $75 for 2 people per room. So I calculated $75 x 4 rooms (even though its is 5 rooms) x 3 nights for a total of $USD 900.

Hey les ti-namis, fiez-vous pas sur mon char pour aller à Antrim. Ce midi, y a une crisss de folle qui n'a pas fait son stop et a embouti ma voiture dans le côté, sans même toucher aux freins. J'ai eu le bon réflexe d'accélérer un peu au lieu de freiner pour éviter qu'elle n'enfonce ma porte (et moi du même coup). Elle m'a punché dans la roue/aile arrière, et m'a envoyé spinner sur le trottoir/gazon.

De un, une chance qu'il n'y avait personne sur le trottoir parce qu'on l'aurait tué. De deux, elle descendait une pente qui arrive à une intersection en T où elle seule avait un stop à faire. Si elle ne me punchait pas, elle allait s'écraser dans un bloc-appartements. Pas voir un stop quand la rue continue devant toi, à la limite je peux comprendre. Mais pas voir un ostie de gros building drette dans ta face sur ton chemin... juste une chose à dire: CRISSS D'ÉPAISSE!

Je peux vous dire que les crash qu'on voit souvent de ce temps-ci au cinéma avec la prise de vue de l'intérieur du véhicule qui se fait puncher dans le côté à une intersection, y sont réalistes et ben faite en ostie.

Je vais savoir lundi si ils réparent ma bagnole ou si c'est une perte totale. Mais peu importe, j'aurai pas de véhicule pour jeudi . Alors je call shotgun à l'avance avec le premier qui part jeudi...
